गोली

 यह कहानी है एक गोली की। आपमें से बहुत से लोग इस शब्द से परिचित नहीं होंगे। पर राजा महाराजों की आवश्यकता पूर्ती का यह वह साधन है जिसने लगभग ६०,००० की जनसँख्या का रूप ले लिया था।

कहानी की नायिका चंपा भी एक गोली की पुत्री है और इसलिए जन्म जात गोली है।

गोले -गोली जनसँख्या का वह टुकड़ा है जिसे अपने होने का आभास भी होने नहीं दिया जाता।

दान दहेज़ में प्रथा दर प्रथा इधर से उधर जीवन बीतता है। कभी राजा की सेवा में तो कभी रानी की जी हुजूरी मे।

कहानी के दो अन्य मुख्या किरदारों में "चंपा " के दो नायक हैं ,एक तो अन्नदाता महाराज हैं ,जिनकी वह गोली से कहीं अधिक स्वामिनी है। कहानी का दूसरा नायक है किसुन  जिसके बारे में 4 पंक्ति लिखकर बताना उसका अपमान करना है। क्यूंकि देवताओं का क्या  वर्णन और ऐसा में नहीं कहती, कहते हैं स्वयं आचार्य चतुरसेन।

इस कहानी को संक्षिप्त में कहूँ तो गोलियों की दासता और मजबूरी की एक सच्ची घटना पर आधारित उपन्यास कह सकती हूँ ,परन्तु इसे पूरा पढ़े बिना इसके साथ न्याय नहीं हो सकता।

चंपा जब रुआँसे से मन से कहती है

‘‘मैं जन्मजात अभागिनी हूँ। स्त्री जाति का कलंक हूँ। परन्तु मैं निर्दोष हूँ, निष्पाप हूँ। मेरा दुर्भाग्य मेरा अपना नहीं है, मेरी जाति का है, जाति-परम्परा का है; हम पैदा ही इसलिए होते हैं कि कलंकित जीवन व्यतीत करें। जैसे मैं हूँ ऐसी ही मेरी माँ थी, परदादी थी, उनकी दादियाँ-परदादियाँ थीं। मैंने जन्म से ही राजसुख भोगा, राजमहल में पलकर मैं बड़ी हुई, रानी की भाँति मैंने अपना यौवन का शृंगार किया। रंगमहल में मेरा ही अदब चलता था। राजा दिन रात मुझे निहारता, कभी चंदा कहता, कभी चाँदनी। राजा मेरे चरण चूमता, मेरे माथे पर तनिक-सा बल पड़ते ही वह बदहवास हो जाता था। कलमुँहे विधाता ने मुझे जो यह जला रूप दिया, राजा उस रूप का दीवाना था, प्रेमी पतंगा था। एक ओर उसका इतना बड़ा राज-पाट और दूसरी ओर वह स्वयं भी मेरे चरण की इस कनी अंगुली के नाखून पर न्यौछावर था।’’

यह पुस्तक और इसकी संपूर्ण कहानी पड़ते वक़्त भय ,रोमांच  और डर से कितनी ही बार मेरा हृदय काँप उठा। अपने साधारण से जीवन पर कई बार पछतावे का एहसास हर मनुष्य को होता है परन्तु इस पुस्तक को पढ़ते हुए मुझे संतुष्टि होने लगी।

आचार्य चतुरसेन  लेखक होने के साथ चिकित्सक भी थे और इसी वजह से राजा रानियों के गलियारे की टोह लेने में उनसे चूक नहीं हुई। राज घरानो के जीवन की विचित्रता बतलाता यह उपन्यास आपको कड़वे सच के गहरे अंधकार में ले जायेगा।

1958 में पहली बार प्रकाशित आचार्य चतुरसेन का यह अत्यंत लोकप्रिय उपन्यास राजस्थान के रजवाड़ों में प्रचलित गोली प्रथा पर आधारित है। चंपा नामक गोली का पूरा जीवन राजा की वासना को पूरा करने में निकल जाता है और वह मन-ही-मन अपने पति के प्रेम-पार्श्व को तरसती रहती है। लेखक का कहना है, ‘‘मेरी इस चंपा को और उसके श्रृंगार के देवता किसुन को आप कभी भूलेंगे नहीं। चंपा के दर्द की एक-एक टीस आप एक बहुमूल्य रत्न की भाँति अपने हृदय में संजोकर रखेंगे।’’

कृष्णा सोबती भारतीय साहित्य के परिदृश्य पर हिंदी की विश्वसनीय उपस्थिति के साथ  अपनी संयमित अभिव्यक्ति और सुथरी  रचनात्मकता के लिए जानी जाती  हैं ,कम लिखने को ही अपना परिचय मानने वाली कृष्णा जी की जादुई कलम से निकला मर्मस्पर्शी उपन्यास है.......... डार् से बिछुड़ी

इस कहानी मैं एक पाशो की ओढ़नी में जाने कितनी ही पाशो आपको नजर आएँगी।

.अपनी दर्द भरी आवाज से जब वह कहती है

जीएं ,जागें ,सब जीएं जागें।

तो जीने की खवाहिश और पुख्ता हो जाती है।

कहानी में-  

पाशो जब  किशोरी ही थी, तब  उसकी माँ विधवा होकर भी शेखों की हवेली जा चढ़ी । ऐसे में माँ ही उसके मामुओं के लिए 'कुलबोरनी' नहीं हो गई, वह भी सन्देहास्पद हो उठी । नानी ने भी एक दिन कहा ही था-' 'सँभलकर री, एक बार का थिरका पाँव जिन्दगानी धूल में मिला देगा !' ' लेकिन थिरकने-जैसा तो पाशो की जिन्दगी में कुछ था ही नहीं, सिवा इसके कि वह माँ की एक झलक देखने को छटपटाती और इसी के चलते शेखों की हवेलियों की ओर निकल जाती । यही जुर्म था उसका । माँ ही जब विधर्मी बैरियों के घर जा बैठी तो बेटी का क्या भरोसा! जहर दे देना चाहिए कुलच्छनी को, या फिर दरिया में डुबो देना चाहिए!. ..ऐसे ही खतरे को भाँपकर एक रात माँ के चल में जा छुपी पाशो, लेकिन शीघ्र ही उसका वह शारण्य भी छूट गया, और फिर तो अपनी डार से बिछुड़ी एक लड़की के लिए हर ठौर-ठिकाना त्रासद ही बना रहा ।

उपन्यास में स्त्री जीवन के समक्ष जन्म से ही मौजूद खतरों और उसकी विडंबनाओं को रेखांकित किया गया है इस कहानी का एक ऐतिहासिक परिपेक्ष भी है और वह है सिख और अंग्रेज सेनाओं के बीच 1849 में हुआ अंतिम घमासान,पाशो  उसमें शामिल नहीं थी लेकिन वह लड़ाई उसकी जिंदगी में अनिवार्य रूप से शामिल थी। एक लड़ाई थी जो अपने अंदर थी और एक लड़ाई थी जो वह  बाहर लड़ती थी और यही वजह है कि पाशो आज भी जिंदा है अपनी धरती अपनी संस्कृति दोनों का प्रतिरूप बनकर ।

किताब पढ़कर कृष्णा जी के पास जाकर पाशो का हाल पूछने का दिल करता है पर पाशो कोई एक तो हो।

जाने कितनी ही पाशो  युद्ध की वेदी पर चढ़ गयी। न ठौर मिला न ठिकाना

 

 The Wind in the Willows

It's  a children's novel by the British novelist Kenneth Grahame, first published in 1908. 

One day while spring cleaning, mole feels a sudden dissatisfaction and leaves his underground home. He soon discovers a small river community out in the country, and makes a new friend in Rat. After a long afternoon boating down the river ,rat invites mole to live with him. During that adventure , mole also learns about Badge and Toad and develops a curiosity to meet them both. Because badger prefers to meet alone rat takes mole to meet toad a rich animal with a very short attention span. He lives in a grand house called Toad Hall.

Toad is extremely wealthy yet selfish and immature. He is obsessed with the automobile and its speed. Many time badger ask mole and rat to help toad about his dangerous automobile habits.

At toad hall, Badger tries to speak maturely to toad, but toad remains childish and refuses to listen, Thus, they place him on house arrest, guarding him one at  a time But, Toad is very cunning and manipulative and he is able to escape by fooling rat.

He runs to a nearby café, where he sees an automobile and unable to help himself, he steals the car and wrecks it. Consequently he is arrested and sentenced to twenty years in jail.

Meanwhile, the Jailors daughter takes pity on the forlorn toad in prison and she helps him to escape. 

He switches clothes with the Jail's washerwomen and uses it to flee. Toad soon learns from his friends that the weasels and stoats have taken over Toad hall.

Under Badger's leadership, the four main characters develop a plan to sneak into Toad Hall through a secret passageway and surprise the weasels during a party. The plan become a great success and they chase the weasels away.

The four friends plan a great party and after that live their days at toad hall with peace and happiness.

The story through its amusing animal characters not only entertains the young reader but also subtly teaches the values of respect ,honesty ,trust, friendship , hospitality and humility.

OLIVER TWIST: OVERVIEW

Oliver is born in a workhouse in the first half of the nineteenth century. His mother dies during his birth, and he is sent to an orphanage,where he is poorly treated, regularly beaten and poorly fed. In a famous episode, he walks up to the the stern authoritarian, Mr. Bumble, and asks for a second helping of gruel. For this impertinence, he is put out of the workhouse. He then runs away from the family who take him in. He wants to find his fortune in London. Instead, he falls in with a boy called Jack Dawkins, who is part of a child gang of thieves--run by a man called Fagin.

Oliver is brought into the gang and trained as a pickpocket. When he goes out on his first job, he runs away and is nearly sent to prison. However, the kindness of the person he tries to rob saves him from the terrors of the city gaol (jail) and instead he is taken into the man's home.

He believes he has escaped Fagan and his gang, but Bill Sikes and Nancy, two members of the gang, force him back. Oliver is once more sent out on another job--this time assisting Sikes on a burglary

The job goes wrong and Oliver is shot and left behind. Once more he is taken in,this time by the Maylies, the family he was sent to rob, where his life changes dramatically for the better.

But Fagin's gang comes after him again. Nancy, who is worried about Oliver, tells the Maylies what is happening. When the gang finds out about Nancy's treachery, they murder her.

Meanwhile, the Maylies reunite Oliver with the gentleman who helped him out earlier and who-- with the kind of coincidental plot turn typical of many Victorian novels-- turns out to be Oliver's uncle. Fagin is arrested and hanged for his crimes; and Oliver settles down to a normal life, reunited with his family.

Oliver Twist was also influential in bringing to light the cruel treatment of paupers and orphans in Dickens' time.

The novel is not only a brilliant work of art but an important social document.

No matter how you are READING …

The joy of reading books can't be described in words. It's something that you understand only by real experience.

When you spend several hours reading a book, you create a world of your own in your mind. You fill this world with different characters and scenes. This increases your imagination powers and helps you to think about your ideas more visually.  

The advance of technology has dramatically changed the way students study and teachers teach. One major innovation came in the form of tablets and e-readers, which enable students to study, make notes and read assignments without the need for physical textbooks. Both textbook forms have advantages and disadvantages, and the final decision on which works best comes down to your individual needs and study habits.

Digital will continue to grow for a while at least, and continue to exist, because it is becoming part of the world. Ebooks are here to stay because digital is, and quite shortly we'll stop having this debate about paper vs ebooks because it will no longer make a lot of sense.

By the same token, paper has a place in our hybrid future. Digital books are still painfully ugly and weirdly irritating to interact with. They look like copies of paper, but they can't be designed or typeset in the same way as paper, and however splendid the cover images may look on a hi-res screen, they're still images rather than physical things. You still can't flick through an ebook properly; you can't riffle the pages, you can't look at more than one page at once. And the advantages of having a book in digital form (easy scrolling text, proper shareability, a global text search of your library, synchronisation with audiobooks, links to television adaptations, person-to-person sales) have been ignored in favour of a weak simulacrum of paper. Better, a lot of the time, to shove a paperback in your pocket. And for when you forget, well, there's still your phone.

Whether you read on some electronic device or prefer reading a real book, that's your personal choice. Personally, I prefer to read real books whenever possible because even after hours of reading my eyes feel fresh and full of energy. That's something I don't feel when I read too much on my computer.

A book imparts knowledge, and not only knowledge but wisdom, wisdom of all kinds…simple letters that matter, instructions to recipes, to theories to stories, to science and technology to engineering, to news to history, to media to entertainment…well the list goes on and on. So don’t think how you are reading..through a real book or digital…just grab and read…wherever and whenever…atleast I do this…

Maha Kumbh of Literature

The wait is almost over. Jaipur Literature festival is back from 21 – 25 Jan 2015.

 JLF, which began in 2006, is now regarded as a cultural catalyst within India and around the world, exposing audiences to a constant flow of ideas. Featuring live music sessions and interactive workshops, the Festival provides a space to dare, dream and imagine.

The five day festival that is known to bring out an infectious energy and unrivalled magic to the state capital, is all set to begin from jan 21.well known people from different walks of life will make their presence felt at the festival.

According to the sponsors this year around 234 speakers will participate in the festival, and a further 117 musicians, speakers and artists, will take the number of festival participants to 351.
